Jonathan Simon is an undergraduate mechanical engineering major at UIC. His research interests concern sustainability and are motivated by the problem of reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide and the development of processes for producing reusable materials. Areas of interest include efficient recycling processes, additive manufacturing, and alternative building materials. Other related interests are electrochemistry (hydrogen fuel cells, solid-state batteries) and mechatronics (electronics hardware, electric vehicles). Currently, Jonathan is working with Muhtar Ahart on the construction of an ultrasonic apparatus for the measurement of the elastic moduli of materials at high pressures in the diamond anvil cell.
