Roma Ripani is a chemistry graduate student at UIC interested in the bonding, kinetic, and thermodynamic aspects of chemical reactions at high pressure. She is also interested in the applications of extreme chemistry to problems in Earth and planetary science. She uses single-crystal x-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods to characterize new phases and expand the connection between theory and experiment. She is currently working on small molecular mixtures containing nitrogen in the interest of creating and exploring high energy density materials and increase understanding of structure and bonding at elevated pressures.
