Steven Jacobsen is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Northwestern University, where he directs its Mineral Physics and High-Pressure Laboratory.
Professor Jacobsen's research broadly explores the physics and chemistry of materials at high pressures and temperatures, with a particular interest in earth and planetary materials. He develops new high-pressure elasticity techniques, uses extreme conditions to design and synthesize new materials, and applies dynamic compression techniques to study materials behavior at extreme conditions at NNSA labs.
Professor Jacobsen and his CDAC students contribute principally to Thrust I. Thermomechanical Extremes and Thrust II. Chemical and Material Extremes.
