About
Dana Dlott is the William H. and Janet G. Lycan Research Professor in the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Professor Dlott uses high-throughput tabletop experiments to study shock compression of condensed matter with high time
(nanosecond) and space (micrometer) resolution. Notable is his development of the shock compression microscope that combines hypervelocity laser-launched miniflyer plates, mass production of disposable sample arrays, high dynamic range optical pyrometry, nanosecond video imaging and Doppler velocimetry to measure material properties and temperatures under shock.
Professor Dlott’s research group contributes to CDAC Science Thrust II. Chemical and Material Extremes where he is developing methods to increase miniflyer velocities in order to produce transient metallization of energetic materials and inert fluids and solids.
